On New Year's Day, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos posted a message wishing his followers a happy holiday that poked fun at Germany's 7-1 win over Brazil at the 2014 World Cup – some 30 months after the even happened.
His Real Madrid teammate and opponent on that fateful night, Marcelo, took offence to this, slamming the German's reference as disrespectful.
However, as well as upsetting Marcelo, it seems that the Tweet upset another member of Real Madrid's squad, despite the man in question not being Brazilian.
No, it would appear that there are still well defined cliques within the Los Blancos squad as James Rodriguez unwittingly got involved.
Footballers are still learning the hard way when it comes to social media that their every move is often scrutinised, and Rodriguez probably didn't imagine that the simple act of 'liking' an Instagram post would drag him into the whole mess.
Later on in the day, Rodriguez liked a post that also took exception to Kroos' behaviour.
The post contained a Willy Wonka meme that told Kroos to "f*** himself", and one Twitter user spotted the Colombian's activity and posted it for all to see.
Rumours of splinter groups and cliques on the training ground in the Spanish capital have been rife for years, and Rodriguez's passive aggressive behaviour could hint at a bigger split that first thought
