Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje |
The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday, attributed the crisis rocking the All Progressive Congress to a lack of synchronization among the different political blocs that merged to form the party.
The governor was reacting to the recent Senate rejection of some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees, including the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu; ambassadorial appointees, and the ongoing feud between the legislature and Customs Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.). Ganduje described the crisis as “democracy at work.”
According to him, with time, the dissenting voices in the party will align to pursue a unified political template. The political blocs, he said, would melt away and the present trend would be reversed in due course.
He said Buhari’s decision not to meddle in the functions of the legislative arm of government allowed the wheel of democracy to continue turning freely, in accordance with the tenets of democracy.
“The insistence of the upper chamber on its independence through its recent decisions, as part of its functioning, is democratically civilized and acceptable,” Ganduje said.
The governor criticized the administration of political parties in the past, saying they served as channels through which occupants enriched themselves.
He added, “The change mantra has abolished the unwanted trade by dubious politicians. The APC is now structured in a pattern whereby the party currently fends for itself, as opposed to the previous style, where parties resorted to the use of public funds unjustly in funding political party activities.
“The Senate has clearly shown that it is not under pressure from the executive arm of government led by Buhari. It is likewise clear that there are no compromises in the appointment and confirmation of those nominated to occupy public offices under this dispensation.”
He bemoaned that politics in Nigeria was unpredictable, just as he expressed astonishment at how quickly he said Nigerians had forgotten the achievement of the ruling APC in bringing the activities of insurgents to a dead end.
