Morgan Schneiderlin is free to leave Manchester United this month after failing to establish himself in Jose Mourinho's plans |
The Dutchman has made a respectable start to life with the Toffees, with the club currently seventh in the league, but they are a massive nine points behind sixth-placed Red Devils.
The ex-Southampton boss is keen to link up with his former Saints midfielder once again, with the France international having failed to establish himself in Mourinho's team.
It's no secret that Schneiderlin is crying out for a move away from Old Trafford, having been reduced to just eight appearances in all competitions for United this season. And Koeman is more than willing to offer his former player a, potentially, rewarding escape route.
The Dutchman feels Schneiderlin can play a vital part in helping to turn the Toffees into challengers for Champions League football.
Toffees must meet United demands
However, as per The Telegraph, that deal is hinging on Everton meeting United's £24 million price tag, with the club refusing to sell the defensive midfielder for any less than what they bought him for from Southampton in 2015.Mourinho is ready to cash in on Louis Van Gaal's signing but insists the sale will only be on the club's terms.
“We have not received one single offer that we are going to accept," Mourinho admitted. “I don’t want to sell players. The club and the board is totally with me but, if a player is not having lots of minutes and really wants to leave, we have no right to stop him if the conditions are our conditions.”
Red Devils testing Everton's limits
Despite it being clear that the Frenchman has no future at Old Trafford, the club are taking a tough stance on the transfer - knowing too well that Everton are being bankrolled by a new billionaire majority stakeholder in Farhad Moshiri. And with the Red Devils well aware of how important Schneiderlin is to Koeman in the January transfer window, they are ready to hold out and recuperate all of the £24 million they feel they have misspent on the midfielder.
Koeman is hopeful of helping Schneiderlin to find his form of past, from their time together on the south coast at Southampton. And a second bid from Everton for the United outcast is anticipated.
